Have you ever considered buying a left hand drive car in the UK?

There are many reasons why buying a left hand drive car might make sense for you. The primary reason is often cost. You wouldn’t believe the savings on a new LHD car over a RHD car of exactly the same make and model… Euro importers can save you a bit, but when the exchange rate is right, importing from the US suddenly looks like a bargain. The more expensive the car, the greater the savings, as the price of shipping is fixed.

It may be that you travel in Europe a lot, so the convenience of LHD works for you. Or you may have fallen in love with a US manufactured car that you can’t get in RHD… I can think of a few, such as the latest Dodge Challenger – oh man is that a good looking car!

Perhaps you’re a purist sportscar driver – in my opinion a Porsche 911 was made to be LHD, and until you drive one and compare it to a RHD, you’ll probably be scoffing at me right now…

These are just some of the reasons to buy a LHD car in the U.K. So is it hard to drive a one on the left side of the road? Contrary to popular opinion, it is not much different driving a left hand drive car in the UK than a normal RHD. Overtaking on single lane roads is the major difference, and of course getting used to changing gear with your right hand. Get an automatic car and the latter problem is solved. Get a navigator and the former problem is solved too!
